A Letter From the Founder of Time4Learning

Dear Parents,

A number of you have asked me why I started Time4Learning. I started Time4Learning to solve some of the frustrations that I felt as a parent in trying to provide quality educational materials to my children. I thought there should be better choices than paper worksheets that bore the children, pseudo-educational games, or weekly driving to tutors who take $50 an hour and give them the same worksheets and flash cards. For example:

I was frustrated by the lack of quality interactive educational materials. I wanted to help unleash the incredible power of the computer for education. I wanted to provide a better education to my young children.

I was frustrated by the educational experience the kids got from software that I bought in stores. While some lessons were effective, it was mostly games with some "educational" overtones thrown in. Plus, they were expensive since the kids grew bored with them quickly.
Online, it was a frustrating bazaar of overly-commercial sites. They were using education and games to advertise to my children, to sell to my children, and to trick them into downloading spyware or advertising-filled materials disguised as free downloads. While there are many good learning and game web sites, I didn't have the time to constantly sort through them.
I used the kitchen timer to control my children's computer time for awhile. Yet, when it rang, I still had to play the bad guy and force them off of the computer. After they learned to reset the timer, I grew frustrated that there was not a simple technical solution.

Time4Learning is designed to solve these problems for busy parents. The children go from lesson to lesson within an organized sequence where new skills are progressively taught. After studying, they are rewarded with time in the playground. Children start at a level that's right for them.
