Seventh Grade Overview
Time4Learning is popular as a seventh grade homeschool curriculum, for afterschool enrichment, for remediation, and as a summer school alternative.
For seventh graders, Time4Learning provides language arts, math and social studies curriculum. (Parents can request access to pre-algebra and algebra.) Students will also be given access to 6th grade science curriculum, which is the highest level we have available in that subject. The language arts and math both correlate to state standards.
Seventh Grade Learning Objectives
While in seventh grade, a student should master the prerequisites for attaining success in the eighth grade language arts, reading and mathematics curriculum. By the end of any seventh grade language arts and reading program, students should be able to constructively critique their own and others' writing. Seventh grade students should start to find their own unique voice within their writing that engages a specific audience. Their writing should follow a specific writing structure that has a coherent focus. Seventh grade students should be able draw from a variety of genres for their writing. They should have started to incorporate a range of writing strategies, such as: using figurative language, dialogue, flashback, tone, and mood. Seventh grade students will begin to recognize and use vocabulary they have learned in various subjects. Reading across subject areas will result in a stronger writing vocabulary.

At the end of any seventh grade mathematics program, students should understand more difficult algebraic equations and should be able to prove basic algebraic inequalities. Students should be able to graph linear functions and solve two step linear equations. Students should be able to add or subtract fractions by factoring to find common denominators. Seventh grade students should be able to find the measurements of angles and polygons, and identify congruent figures.
Seventh Grade Language Arts and Reading
The seventh grade language arts curriculum contains reading comprehension lessons and writing lessons, focusing heavily on specific skill areas needed for accurate reading and understanding of texts. Five thematic reading units integrate reading, writing, and comprehension skills. Activities in grammar, spelling, and vocabulary help students to identify and use the rules of syntax, sentence structure, and punctuation with additional resources found via the teaching guides within the parent administration page. See Lesson Plans
Seventh graders will determine word meanings through several vocabulary activities focusing on the use of context clues (signal words and definitions), multiple meaning words (parts of speech, word meanings, dictionary definitions), and figurative language (metaphors, similes hyperbole, and personification), all leading up to vivid writing and active literature response. Students will continue to practice summarization skills through analyzing details in text, identifying main topics, and differentiating between literal statements and implied concepts. Further comprehension skills (author’s purpose, logical conclusions and inferences, fact and opinion, comparing and contrasting, setting, and point-of-view) are highlighted and practiced throughout the seventh grade language arts curriculum. See Lesson Demos
Grammar extensions including lessons on parts of speech, prepositional phrases, conjunctions, capitalization, quotes, comma usage, colons, semicolons, and apostrophes, are strategically taught before the writing component.
Many parents have expressed interest in purchasing the full versions of the authentic literature excerpted in the Language Arts section. They can be purchased at the links below but they DO NOT need to be purchased in order to use Time4Learning.
Seventh Grade Vocabulary

Four literature based units utilize authentic literature and an online vocabulary graphic organizer to build vocabulary. A glossary is provided for each of the literature selections to assist in completing the accompanying vocabulary exercises. Each unit includes a related vocabulary list and printable vocabulary worksheets. An extensive “Word Meanings” chapter includes vocabulary activities designed to guide students in using context clues in order to understand text.
