Kindergarten Math - What are the Standards and Curriculum?

Time4Learning teaches a comprehensive Kindergarten math curriculum using fun, Kindergarten math students will be learning basic math concepts. In case they haven't picked it up during their preschool years, kindergarten math students will be learning to count to 100, and to read and write numbers to ten. Kindergarten children will learn about cardinal numbers, which indicate quantity, and ordinal numbers, which indicate position.

While learning to count to 100, kindergarten math students will be counting by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s. They will learn the concept of odd and even numbers and be able to identify them.

Kindergarten Math Curriculum and Standards - Lessons, Activities, Worksheets - Number Sense and Concepts

Kindergarten math students will be introduced to sets, addition, and subtraction. They will use numbers and pictures to count objects in a set. They will compare two sets and tell which is equal to, more than, or less than the other.

During their kindergarten math studies the children will use language to describe the relative position of numbers in a sequence on a number line up to 10 or more. They will be expected to count backwards from ten to one and to understand the relationship of smaller numbers to larger ones.

They will use sets of 10 or more, and will be comparing sets, identifying equivalent sets to show simple addition, for example: a set of two and a set of four are equal to a set of six. Kindergarten math will teach them to create number stories using objects so they'll learn strategies for solving number problems. This will develop an awareness of how addition and subtraction are used in everyday activities. The children will be able to use addition and subtraction concepts to move forward or backwards along a number line.

Kindergarten Math Curriculum and Standards - Lessons, Activities, Worksheets - Measurement

Kindergarten math students will be taught to measure length, to weigh objects, and to understand capacity (full or empty). They will be introduced to the concepts of time and temperature. They will compare objects, sort and order them by length and weight, and learn to use nonstandard items to measure things, for example a pencil can be used to measure the width of a door - it is four pencils wide. They will also learn about various tools for measuring length, weight, or capacity.

The children will be taught to identify the time of day or night as morning, afternoon, or evening. They will learn to understand yesterday, today, and tomorrow. They will compare activities and learn which ones take more or less time. Kindergarten math will introduce children to calendars and the concepts of days, weeks, months, and days of the week. Kindergarten math students will learn the values of pennies, nickels and dimes. They will be able to compare these values and understand which are worth more or less.
