Homeschool Field Trips in Eastern Massachusetts

• iRobot (Bedford) – Is your homeschooler interested in STEM subjects? iRobot, who designed the Roomba, allows visitors to its corporate headquarters in Bedford! You can request to visit as an educational group on their website.
• Alden House Historic Site (Duxbury) – One of the most interesting facts about Massachusetts is its importance in the founding of America. A field trip to this historic house is an excellent example! The Alden House belonged to two pilgrims who arrived on the Mayflower in 1620. The land has never been out of the Alden family, and is now a National Historic Landmark.
• The Paul Revere House (Boston) – Paul Revere was one of America’s most important patriots, and his house has since been preserved. You and your homeschooler can learn so much about American History with the many exhibits and interactive programs offered. Admission includes the Old South Meeting House, where the Boston Tea Party began!
• Salem Witch Museum (Salem) – Yet another historic site to see, the Salem Witch Museum offers educational exhibits on the Salem Witch Trials. There are life-size stage sets, figures, lighting, and narration to make your visit one to remember.
• The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History (Brewster) – This museum offers a unique experience for homeschool students to learn about the environment. There are lots of programs and homeschool field trips offered, and lots of exhibits to explore.

Homeschool Field Trips in Central Massachusetts

• Animal Adventures (Bolton) – This family zoo and rescue center takes in exotic animals that are no longer able to be cared for by their owners. Visitors receive a full educational experience of learning about the different breeds housed at the center, the ecosystems they need to thrive, and the adaptations they use to survive.
• EcoTarium (Worcester) – Featuring three floors of interactive exhibits, daily science programs, a planetarium, and spacious outdoor areas, this museum is a must on your next educational field trip. There are static and rotating exhibits, so make sure to check the website before you go.
• Purgatory Chasm State Reservation (Sutton) – A unique homeschool field trip, this reservation offers both breathtaking views and a deep history. The chasm itself is beautiful and got its name from an old Native-American tale. The rest of the reservation offers plenty of land for picnicking and exploring.
• Worcester Art Museum (Worcester) – Over 38,000 works of art are housed in this historic museum which was opened in 1898. It is known for its collections of Roman Mosaics, Japanese prints, and arms and armor. Homeschool programs include tours and Gallery Studio Workshops for ages 5 and up.

Homeschool Field Trips in Western Massachusetts

• The Botanic Garden of Smith College (Northampton) – Enjoy the beautiful expanse of this Botanic Garden, located on the campus of Smith College. There’s plenty to see, from the Plant House and Conservatory, Campus Arboretum and Gardens, Spring Bulb Show, and the Fall Chrysanthemum Show!
• Red Gate Farm Education Center (Ashfield) – This education center has plenty to offer homeschoolers. While students are allowed at any event at the farm, there are “Homeschool Halfdays” every Wednesday. Learn all about farming, from seed starting to maple sugaring!
• Herman Melville’s Arrowhead (Pittsfield) – Known as the author who wrote Moby Dick, Herman Melville wrote his great books in his home, “Arrowhead.” Now owned by the Berkshire Historical Society, the home has been beautifully restored and can be toured.
• Herbert Arboretum (Pittsfield) – As Pittsfield’s largest public open space, there is plenty to offer to homeschoolers. There are guided bird, wildflower, and stargazing walks, as well as over 50 species of trees, 338 species of plants, and 135 species of wildflowers. This is a wonderful educational trip for your homeschooler to learn science.
• Poet’s Seat Tower (Greenfield) – Not only is Poet’s Seat Tower the highest point in the city, but it was also used by poets to seek inspiration. Climb to the top and see the fantastic views – your homeschooler may be inspired to write a little poetry of their own!
