Nevada Homeschool Associations
Homeschooling families in Nevada have so much to gain from the state’s homeschool associations. In addition to providing resources and support for homeschoolers in the Silver State, Nevada homeschool associations also provide advocacy for families and information regarding any changes in legislation. Learn more about Nevada’s two homeschool associations and how they can benefit your family, regardless of where you live in the state.
Nevada Homeschool Network (NHN)
This statewide organization’s mission states, in part, that it strives to advocate for homeschool freedom and the right of each family to direct the education of their own child as they see best. NHN was started in 2002 and its officers are current and former homeschoolers. “Along with continued vigilance to maintain our freedom,” the organization’s top priority is to “educate and assist all those interested in homeschooling.”
Basic membership to NHN is free of charge and gives members access to legislative alerts and tons of information on the NHN website. A silver membership is $25 per year and includes numerous discounts and other perks.
Northern Nevada Home Schools (NNHS)
Serving homeschoolers in the Northern Nevada area, NNHS was founded in 1984. Run solely by volunteers, NNHS is a non-profit created to “support, encourage and assist home schoolers in Northern Nevada.”
Membership at the entry level is free and gives members access to invitations to numerous events. Since most events have attendance limits, members who wish to contribute $30 or more per year receive priority invitations to these events.
The NNHS website has a calendar of events on their website that includes field trips, activities, and more. In addition, families can find tons of resources including listings of classes, co-ops, support groups, and more. NNHS offers this information as a courtesy to the homeschool community and specifically states that they don’t necessarily endorse or recommend any of them.
Why Join a Homeschool Association?
Homeschool associations are designed to support homeschooling families throughout their journey, whether they are new or experienced. Going at it alone can be stressful and overwhelming, especially when it comes to state laws and requirements. The benefits of becoming a member vary, but families can always rely on the guidance, support, and advocacy of their local homeschool association. In addition to keeping members up to date on changes in policy or legislation, homeschool associations are also known to host events that bring families in the community together.
