New Mexico Homeschool Co-ops
A homeschool co-op, short for cooperative, allows families to come together to lend their time and knowledge to achieve a goal, in this case, the education of their students. Co-ops are known for offering a wide variety of classes and activities designed to enrich a child’s at home education.
Many parents join a co-op because it allows their children to learn a subject or topic outside the home, in a group setting. These classes are taught by parents who have expertise in a specific area, such as a foreign language, mathematics, art, etc. This can be especially helpful to a parent who isn’t proficient in or comfortable teaching a particular subject.
One such co-op is the Christian Homeschool Co-op in Albuquerque. According to their website, this co-op is a “community in which homeschooling families meet together to encourage and support one another in our common endeavor to glorify God and educate our children.” Classes are offered for students of all ages and include topics like science, creative writing, cooking, sewing, and more. In order to take part in these classes, the Christian Homeschool Co-op charges a registration fee per family per semester.
