CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — World Mental Health Day was Monday, and K-12 schools have seen a spike in mental health issues among students.
John Edelson, the founder and president of Time4Learning, explains homeschooling might be the solution.
Even before the pandemic, statistics showed an increase in parents choosing to home-school their children, specifically in Virginia.
“The newest data is actually from 2021 school year in Virginia. And the Department of Education reported just around 60,000 homeschoolers, which is a 56 percent increase over the previous year,” Edelson said.
However, Virginia is not the only place seeing the uptick. Going into the pandemic, there were two million homeschoolers across the nation. Now, there could be close to five million.
This is because of the easy accessibility, mental health improvements, and quality time parents want to have with their children.
